A Desert Love Story: Daniel & Ale's Wedding in Ica, Peru

I first started photographing these two in 2019, around the time they started dating.

Now, I've known Daniel since the day he came out of the womb: running his mouth, permanently hungry, armed with the quickest comebacks you've ever heard, and probably capable of driving before he could walk.

Ale, I met through him. And honestly, I've become even closer to her than to him. Thank God for that.

She was an immediate fit. A source of joy, gossip, good food, and comfort for all of us.

They'd come visit me, and I'd take their photos because, really, how could I not?

Little beach escapades turned into weekends in Ica. With an off-road pilot behind the wheel and the desert as their backyard, it only made sense to photograph their relationship in its natural habitat: the place that watched it grow.

There is a particular quality about the dunes in Ica.

The sand is always moving. Always flowing.

The desert is constantly reshaping itself, growing, changing, becoming something slightly different every day. It is magnificent to behold.

And the same can be said for their relationship.

Over the years, I photographed countless chapters of their story. Beach days, desert adventures, quiet moments, celebrations.

Then came the wedding.

They got married in Ica, on the family estate, in the very place that had quietly witnessed so much of their relationship. Surrounded by friends, family, and generations of memories, they promised each other forever.

And I got the chance to photograph it all.

I'm not saying this simply because I love these two dearly, but it was genuinely one of the most beautiful days I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

And I don't say that lightly.

I actually flew from Sydney to Peru to photograph this wedding.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The theme of the day was simple: celebrate.

And celebrate we did.

Seriously, there is no party quite like a Peruvian party. I will die on that hill.

There was music, dancing, laughter, endless hugs, and the kind of energy that makes you wish the night would slow down just a little.

But once the wedding day was over, there was one final thing we absolutely had to do.

Drive into the desert and take post-wedding photos.

Because, of course.

When you get married in Ica, with dunes like these just beyond your doorstep, not taking wedding portraits in the desert would almost be irresponsible.

The word I'm looking for to describe these photographs is blessed.

Blessed to have known them for so long.

Blessed that they trusted me to document so many different chapters of their relationship.

Blessed that, after all these years, they still choose to keep me close as both photographer and friend.

What? Did you really think the story ended here?

The truth is, my favorite wedding photos aren't really about the wedding. They're about history. Inside jokes. Friendships. Places that matter. The life you've already built together. If that sounds like the kind of wedding photography you're looking for, I'd love to hear your story.
